ECR Group MEP's Peter van Dalen and Rupert Matthews entered into the spirit of collaboration today with a debate on the future of fishing trade. The event organised by Projekt Hansa brought together stakeholders from across Northern Europe and included Associations, Embassies and Businesses.
The spirit of the event was one of collaboration. Due to the interconnectivity of the markets and the shared commitment to sustainability there is still a great need for cooperation.
Speakers at the event were Elaine Whyte, Clyde Fisherman's Association and Guus Pastoor, AIPCE-CP.
Mr van Dalen MEP, the ECR spokesman for Fisheries said:
"We need to go forward in the spirit of cooperation so that Dutch, British and other EU fishing fleets survive post-Brexit."
This was echoed by Mr Matthews, Chairman of Projekt Hansa, "The United Kingdom is clear that we will be leaving the unpopular Common Fisheries Policy and taking back control of our fishing waters. However, that doesn't mean we don't need to cooperate together to secure the future of our fishing industries"
